“The impact of the airstrike could not be immediately determined as assessment reports from the Joint Operations are still being awaited,” the statement said.

The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a joint airstrike by Nigerian and US forces targeted terrorist hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area, with no civilian casualties reported.

Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, disclosed the operation in a statement on Friday. The strike, conducted on Wednesday, forms part of ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist and bandit networks along Nigeria’s northwestern borders.

“The impact of the airstrike could not be immediately determined as assessment reports from the Joint Operations are still being awaited,” the statement said.

Addressing public concerns over suspicious objects found near Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Bawa said investigations were ongoing. “The circumstances surrounding the objects… could not be immediately explained, as the outcome of analysis by Nigeria-US military authorities is being awaited,” he noted, stressing again that no civilians were harmed.

The state government praised international security cooperation, welcoming the Nigeria–US partnership as crucial to tackling terrorism and cross-border crime. “Sokoto State welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria and all relevant global stakeholders aimed at curbing the menace of terrorism and cross-border crimes in the state,” the statement said.

It urged residents to remain calm, support security agencies, share credible intelligence, and pray for the success of the operations. “The government calls on residents to continue to pray to Almighty Allah to assist our security agencies to defeat criminals in the state and the country at large,” the statement concluded.
