The footage captures what U.S. officials described as decisive and lethal strikes on identified ISIS targets, following weeks of intelligence-gathering operations over parts of the country.

Fresh video footage released by the United States Department of War has shown American military airstrikes carried out against Islamic State (ISIS) fighters in northwest Nigeria on Christmas night.

The footage captures what U.S. officials described as decisive and lethal strikes on identified ISIS targets, following weeks of intelligence-gathering operations over parts of the country.

According to U.S. authorities, the airstrikes were conducted at the request of the Nigerian government and resulted in the killing of multiple ISIS militants operating in the region.

The video shows coordinated aerial bombardment of suspected terrorist camps, with explosions lighting up remote locations believed to have served as hideouts for the extremist group.

The release of the footage comes a day after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces carried out multiple airstrikes against ISIS elements in Nigeria, accusing the group of targeting and killing Christians “at levels not seen for many years.”

In an earlier statement, Trump warned that further strikes would follow if attacks on civilians, particularly Christians, continued.

While the Department of War released the footage, the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) had earlier confirmed that the operation was carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities as part of ongoing counterterrorism cooperation.
