Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has expressed profound grief over a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of seven people from Lawanti community in Akko Local Government Area.
The victims were said to be travelling to Maiduguri, Borno State, to attend a wedding ceremony when the tragedy occurred.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, the governor described the incident as a devastating blow to the families involved and the state as a whole.
He said the loss had shaken the community deeply, noting that “no words can adequately console families who have lost loved ones under such tragic circumstances.”
Yahaya extended condolences to the bereaved families, including the District Head of Jalingo, Bello Hassan Babangida, who lost his sister and niece; Idris Lawanti Maigari, who lost his daughter; and Idris A. Isah Lawanti, the councillor representing Akko Ward, who also lost relatives.
“I pray that Almighty Allah grants the bereaved families, relatives and the entire Lawanti community the strength, patience and fortitude to bear this immense loss,” the governor said, adding that Allah should “envelop the departed souls in His mercy.”
He further prayed that Allah forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, accept their good deeds and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
