The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has shut the Otedola Bridge on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to allow for the removal of two fully loaded 20-foot container trucks involved in an early-morning crash.
The agency confirmed the temporary closure on Saturday via a video update, explaining that recovery work was in progress and traffic flow had been suspended on the bridge.
“Recovery of the two 20-ft loaded containerised vehicles is ongoing. A high-capacity crane and flatbed trucks are on the ground. The bridge is temporarily closed, and there is no vehicular movement at the location,” LASTMA stated.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area and make use of designated alternative routes to minimise congestion.
“Motorists are advised to divert from Redeem Camp/Kara through Ogunusi Road, proceed to Omole Junction, connect Agidingbi Road, and continue their journey,” the authority added.
The incident occurred when one of the container trucks toppled on the Otedola Bridge, inward Secretariat, triggering severe traffic build-up that stretched from Berger towards Oke.
LASTMA had earlier revealed that the accident happened around 6:30 a.m., noting that traffic officials were immediately deployed to manage the situation and oversee the evacuation process.
“Effort to swiftly recover and evacuate it off the road is ongoing. Our officials are also at the location to monitor the traffic situation. Please be cautious with your driving,” the agency said.
