Many feared dead as explosion hits Zamfara highway

Many travellers are feared dead following a suspected bomb explosion on the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Saturday.

The blast, which reportedly occurred in the afternoon, threw commuters into panic as vehicles and passengers fled the area to avoid further danger.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with Daily Post, saying security agencies were aware of the explosion.

“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area, but it just happened. I can’t give details yet. I will update you later,” he said.

Videos circulating on social media showed frightened travellers abandoning the road moments after the explosion.

Reacting on X, a former SDP House of Assembly candidate in Kaduna State, Nuhu Sada, described the incident as another tragic attack on innocent citizens, calling on security agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Another user alleged that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by bandits, although authorities are yet to officially confirm the cause or casualty figures
