The Deputy President of the Senate, Dr. Barau I. Jibrin, has paid N7 million withheld entitlement of Fa’izu Alfindiki, former chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

A Statement by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, indicated that Kano state government had withheld Alfindiki’s entitlement, “on political grounds.”

According to the Statement: “Following the Kano State Government’s refusal, Senator Barau issued a cheque for N7 million to the former chairman of the Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Honourable Fa’izu Alfindiki, as his entitlement, which the state government has deliberately withheld in a bid to frustrate him for standing with the masses.”

Alfindiki received the cheque in Abuja, before a crowd of the All Progressive Congress (APC) stakeholders, who escorted him from Kano state.

Senator Barau maintained that, “it is unfortunate that he (Alfindiki) has been denied his legitimate entitlements simply because he stood firmly with the APC and the people of our state.

“This is wrong, unjust, and a clear breach of freedom of speech and association.

“Constructive criticism, like that of Fa’izu Alfindiki, is the lubricant of democracy. Without it, this system of government will not flourish.”

Speaking after receiving the cheque, Fa’izu Alfindiki said: “I want to sincerely thank His Excellency, the Deputy President of the Senate and our incoming Governor, In sha Allah, for this great opportunity and honour.

“This singular act once again proves that the APC is a party to stand with and a platform worthy of our dedication and sacrifice.

“From the moment this incident happened, I was confident that the APC would stand by me. Today, that confidence has been justified. The Deputy President of the Senate has stood up for me, and for that, I am deeply grateful.”
