The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the alleged killing of a Europe-based man, Eghosa Osarietinomwan, by his childhood friend, Amadin William.
The suspect allegedly committed the crime on Monday, December 22, 2025, in Oben community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, during the victim’s house-warming ceremony.
The deceased had returned from Europe to celebrate the Yuletide with his family before the tragic incident occurred.
Reports indicate that Amadin lured Eghosa into a bush path, where he attacked him with a machete, resulting in fatal injuries. The suspect fled the community immediately after the attack but was later apprehended in Benin City.
Following the incident, angry youths in Oben reportedly set the suspect’s house ablaze.
Eno Ikoedem, the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody.
She explained that the victim sustained deep machete cuts to the neck while stepping outside to relieve himself during the house-warming celebration.

She added that two individuals have also been arrested in connection with the arson that followed the incident.
