The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr Adebowale Adedokun, on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, where they held extensive discussions on procurement reforms and other issues of national importance.

The meeting, which took place in a relaxed atmosphere, provided an opportunity for the BPP helmsman to brief the President on ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s public procurement system, improve transparency, and enhance value for money in government spending.

Sources familiar with the visit said Dr Adedokun engaged President Tinubu in a frank and wide-ranging conversation on procurement-related challenges, ongoing reforms within the Bureau, and strategies aimed at aligning public procurement processes with the administration’s broader economic and governance agenda.

The discussions also touched on other sundry matters bordering on national development, fiscal responsibility, and the role of effective procurement practices in driving infrastructure delivery and public sector efficiency.

Since assuming office as Director-General of the BPP, Dr Adedokun has initiated a number of reforms that stakeholders say are gradually reshaping the landscape of public procurement in Nigeria. His leadership has been marked by renewed emphasis on due process, institutional accountability, and stricter compliance with procurement regulations across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Under his stewardship, the Bureau has intensified monitoring and oversight, while also promoting capacity building and the adoption of best practices to curb waste, reduce leakages, and enhance confidence in the procurement process.

The courtesy visit is seen as part of ongoing engagements between key government institutions and the Presidency, aimed at ensuring policy coherence and effective implementation of the administration’s reform agenda.
