The national grid collapsed on Monday, leaving millions of Nigerians without electricity. The incident occurred after several major power plants reportedly lost generation.
Checks online confirmed that the grid went down around 3pm, plunging homes, offices, and businesses into darkness.
Data obtained showed that power generation had peaked at about 4,800 megawatts earlier in the day but plummeted to just 139MW at the time of the collapse.
While the exact cause of the failure could not be immediately confirmed, it coincided with efforts by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) to ramp up generation following recent gas supply constraints caused by pipeline vandalism.
As of Monday afternoon, all 22 power plants connected to the national grid had reportedly lost generation.
Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement, and Nigerians have been urged to remain patient as efforts to restore power continue.
