“Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ, and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.”
American boxer Jake Paul has reacted to the road accident involving British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, emphasizing that life is more important than boxing and offering prayers for the victims, Joshua, and everyone affected by the tragedy.
In a statement shared on social media, Paul said:
“Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ, and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.”
The crash occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria, claiming the lives of two male foreign nationals and leaving Joshua with minor injuries.
Paul’s message comes just 10 days after he suffered a sixth-round knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua in their highly anticipated heavyweight clash in Miami, Florida, on December 19, 2025. During the fight, Paul sustained a double jaw fracture, requiring surgery.
Despite their recent rivalry in the ring, Paul’s reaction reflects respect and concern for Joshua and those affected by the accident, highlighting a shared humanity beyond boxing.
Joshua was reportedly travelling in Nigeria when the accident occurred, and investigations into the crash are ongoing. Fans and fellow athletes have also taken to social media to send support and prayers.
