An explosion hit the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, in the early hours of Tuesday, causing panic in the area.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident but said no life was lost.

Police spokesman, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies quickly moved to the scene and secured the hospital to prevent any further danger.

“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that the security situation is under control following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” Usman said.

He explained that a joint team of police officers, soldiers and vigilante members cordoned off the area, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts were brought in to examine the scene.

According to him, although one building in the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged, all occupants had already evacuated before the explosion.

“We are grateful to confirm that no casualties were recorded,” the police spokesman added.

Usman also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered additional security deployments to the area to ensure peace and reassure residents.

He said investigations are ongoing to find out the cause of the explosion, adding that the public would be informed as more details emerge.
