Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has carried out a minor reshuffle within the State Executive Council, sparking fresh political attention in the state.
As part of the changes, Christopher Green has been redeployed from the Ministry of Sports to the Ministry of Justice, where he will serve as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. The previous office holder, Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, vacated the position following the Supreme Court judgment that resolved Rivers State’s political crisis.
The apex court ruling also nullified the appointments of commissioners earlier screened and approved by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led three-member House of Assembly, complicating the executive-legislative relationship.
According to The Nation, this is due to a renewed tension between the governor and the House of Assembly has made it difficult to appoint new commissioners, prompting Fubara to reassign responsibilities among existing cabinet members.
Confirming the reshuffle, a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Sirawoo, said Green would continue to oversee the Ministry of Sports pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner.
