The family of a second-year student at the Kenyatta University (KU), Emmanuel Kiptoo Mutai, from Kapletundo Arorwet Village (Kapsumoni), has been thrown into a deep sorrow following the tragic death of their promising son.

The twenty-year-old Mutai, second-born of the Geoffrey Langat Family in Kenya, met his untimely death days after celebrating Christmas with his family.

According to his uncle, Gilbert Langat, who spoke to TUKO.co.ke, Mutai was on his way home after celebrating Christmas in his grandmother’s place on Thursday, December 25, at around 7 pm, carrying his two siblings on Gilbert’s motorcycle when the unfortunate incident occurred.

“Mutai was the one riding while carrying his two siblings.

“On the way, they encountered a highly intoxicated man. It was as if he was waiting for them to get close so he could stagger onto the road as though he was crossing it.

“In a split second, Mutai was unable to evade him and unfortunately hit him with the bike.

“Mutai and his brothers toppled off the motorbike, with the siblings sustaining minor injuries in the evening accident,” he narrated.

Gilbert said Mutai hit his head on the road while the intoxicated man broke both legs in the incident.

According to him, Mutai, who immediately became unconscious, was along with the three other victims rushed to AIC Litein Hospital for medical attention.

His two brothers, who were not seriously injured, were treated and discharged the same day.

“Unfortunately, Mutai had to undergo a head scan. As the hospital does not offer such services, he was transferred to South Rift Hospital in Kericho,” Gilbert said.

The results of the scan were sent back to Litein Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but sadly, on Saturday, December 27, Mutai gave up the ghost.

“He died at 9pm. We were told he had internal bleeding in his head. It was painful, and it still is painful. We are still trying to process and come to terms with the sad reality that Mutai is no more.

“For now, we are holding meetings at home as we prepare for his final send-off. It is not easy because we are in need of finances, and we do not know where the money will come from,” he said.
