Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has set a new continental record after emerging as the most streamed African artist on Spotify in 2025, amassing nearly 2 billion streams within the year.
Spotify’s 2025 streaming data shows that the Grammy-winning singer, born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, recorded 1.986 billion streams, making it the biggest streaming year ever achieved by an African artist on the platform.
The milestone places Burna Boy ahead of several top African music heavyweights, including Wizkid, who finished second with 1.81 billion streams, and South African pop sensation Tyla, who ranked third with 1.67 billion streams.
Completing the top five are Rema with 1.63 billion streams, and Davido with 1.58 billion streams.
Other Nigerian artists also made strong appearances on the list. Asake followed with 1.52 billion streams, while Ayra Starr recorded 1.47 billion streams. CKay posted 1.38 billion streams, Seyi Vibez earned 1.32 billion, and Mr Eazi rounded out the top ten with 1.26 billion streams.
