AFCON 2025: Dylan Kerr warns Super Eagles of difficult test against Mozambique

Quick Read

Former Leeds United defender, Dylan Kerr, has predicted a tough and unpredictable encounter when Nigeria take on Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Former Leeds United defender, Dylan Kerr, has predicted a tough and unpredictable encounter when Nigeria take on Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 1XBET Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles will face the Mambas of Mozambique on Monday, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake. While Nigeria head into the match as favourites based on past meetings and overall pedigree, Kerr believes knockout games are often decided by small moments.

Kerr pointed out that Nigeria have enjoyed success against Mozambique in previous encounters, winning four of their five meetings. He also recalled Nigeria’s convincing 3–0 victory when both teams met at the 2010 AFCON.

However, the former defender warned that history may count for little in the current tournament. According to him, Mozambique have shown improvement and could pose serious problems if Nigeria are not fully prepared.

Speaking to Flashscore, Kerr said football remains unpredictable, especially at the knockout stage.

“You never know what can happen in these games,” he said. “It will be tough and it can go either way. I expect Mozambique to put up a strong fight against Nigeria.”

The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 pm Nigerian time, and fans are expecting a highly competitive contest as both teams battle for a place in the next round.
