Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a commanding display to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 1XBET Africa Cup of Nations, overpowering Mozambique 4–0 in a dominant round-of-16 encounter on Monday night.

The Super Eagles set the tone early, pressing aggressively and pinning Mozambique deep in their own half.

Nigeria’s intent paid off in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman opened the scoring, collecting a clever pass from Akor Adams, cutting inside his marker and firing an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

Five minutes later, Nigeria doubled their advantage through Victor Osimhen, who reacted quickest to a cross into the box, guiding the ball past the goalkeeper despite not making clean contact.

The Super Eagles went into the break firmly in control, having dominated possession and restricted Mozambique to few clear chances.

Nigeria resumed the second half with renewed intensity and effectively killed the contest two minutes after the restart. Lookman surged down the flank and squared the ball across the area for Osimhen, who tapped into an empty net to make it 3–0.

The rout was completed in the 75th minute when Adams finished clinically from close range after Lookman unselfishly laid the ball into his path, capping a fluent attacking performance from the Super Eagles.

Nigeria recorded overwhelming attacking statistics, racking up 18 goal attempts to Mozambique’s two, while maintaining control of possession for long spells.

The Mozambican defence struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace, movement and sharp passing, despite several substitutions aimed at stemming the tide.
