The Nigeria Police Force has foiled an attempted attack and planned kidnapping of children in Kasuwan Magani, Kaduna State, rescuing 76 children and arresting three suspects.
On January 5, 2026, at about 8:00 pm, the Kaduna State Police Command received intelligence that bandits were planning to attack motorists transporting children through the area. Acting on the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer of Kasuwan Magani led a team to intercept the suspects.
Upon arrival, the police engaged the attackers and successfully repelled them, rescuing 76 children, aged between 7 and 20 years. All the children were unharmed.
Three suspects were arrested during the operation: Jonathan John (25), Oliver Magaji (27), and Bitrus Sawaba (23). Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects intended to transport the children to other parts of the country for child labour and domestic work.
The suspects are in police custody, while the rescued children are being kept safely at the Command Headquarters, pending identification and reunification with their parents or guardians.
Further investigations are ongoing to uncover additional collaborators. The suspects will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.
The Nigeria Police Force urged the public to continue providing credible information to aid proactive policing and reinforce the protection of lives and property.
