The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has firmly distanced himself from any political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that his full attention remains on delivering the mandate entrusted to him by President Bola Tinubu.

The clarification followed the circulation of a controversial write-up titled “Malagi 2027,” allegedly authored by an aide, which speculated on permutations for the 2027 governorship race in Niger State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, categorically disowned the publication, describing it as unauthorised and inconsistent with the minister’s priorities.

According to him, the minister neither directed nor approved the write-up and has no interest in engaging in premature political debates that could distract from his official responsibilities.

“The write-up and all its contexts are hereby vehemently disclaimed,” Ibrahim stated.

“The Minister is fully focused on his responsibility of superintending the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation as assigned by President Bola Tinubu and has no room for political distractions.”

He added that an immediate investigation had been ordered into the circumstances surrounding the publication, while the aide involved, Sa’idu Enagi, has been suspended with immediate effect.

The media aide further stressed that the minister maintains a cordial and constructive working relationship with Umaru Bago, the Governor of Niger State, noting that both leaders are aligned in their commitment to governance and development rather than political speculation.

“Any attempt to drag the Minister into 2027 politics is inimical to these shared objectives and the greater good of Niger State,” Ibrahim said.
