The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Wisdom Onyeaju, in connection with an alleged defilement case involving a 15-year-old girl in the state.

The case drew public attention after a video shared online by a family member of the victim went viral, prompting widespread concern and calls for accountability.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Henry Okoye, said the suspect, who is from Umuekweye, Irete in Owerri-West Local Government Area, is currently in custody.
According to the statement, Onyeaju is being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command also disclosed that officers accused of misconduct while handling the case have been detained, adding that an orderly room trial has been scheduled to begin on Monday, January 12, 2026, in line with police regulations.
The Imo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and accountability, assuring the public that justice would be served in the case.
