President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to renowned writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and their family over the death of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.

In a solemn message issued on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the President described the loss of a child as one of the most devastating experiences any parent can endure, noting that no grief compares to such pain.

Drawing from personal experience, Tinubu said he deeply empathised with the family at what he described as an extremely difficult and sorrowful moment.

“I mourn this sad loss with them,” the President said, assuring the family of his prayers and support as they navigate their bereavement.

Tinubu paid tribute to Adichie’s global literary influence, describing her as an icon whose works have brought “joy and light” to homes around the world.

He added that her contributions to literature and storytelling have touched lives far beyond Nigeria’s borders.

The President prayed for divine strength and comfort for Adichie and her family, urging them to find solace in faith as they confront the tragedy.

“My prayers are with the family,” Tinubu said.
