AFCON: Morocco outclass Cameroon to book last-four spot
Quick Read
As the competition reaches its climax, hosts Morocco will look to build on this strong performance and keep alive their dream of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
Host nation Morocco booked their place in the 1XBET Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semi-finals with a commanding 2–0 victory over Cameroon in Friday night’s quarter-final clash at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The Atlas Lions took control of the match in front of an electric home crowd, scoring through Brahim Díaz in the 26th minute and Ismael Saibari in the 74th minute to seal a memorable win.
Díaz continued his impressive tournament run, scoring for the fifth game in a row, a remarkable feat that underlines his importance to Morocco’s campaign. Meanwhile, Saibari’s composed finish late in the second half ensured there would be no comeback for the five-time African champions.
The hosts dominated the encounter from the outset, controlling possession and applying consistent pressure that kept Cameroon pinned back for much of the game. Morocco’s defence remained resolute, frustrating the Indomitable Lions and denying them any meaningful chance on goal.
With the win, Morocco reaches the AFCON last four for the first time since 2004, reigniting hopes of lifting their first continental title in half a century. Their next opponent will be either Nigeria or Algeria, depending on Saturday’s quarter-final result.
Cameroon’s journey at AFCON ends in disappointment, but their spirited effort in the tournament will be remembered. Despite a lack of clear scoring opportunities, the Indomitable Lions showed flashes of resilience, though they could not overcome a confident Moroccan side.
As the competition reaches its climax, hosts Morocco will look to build on this strong performance and keep alive their dream of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
