2027: Kwankwaso sets conditions for alliance talks with APC, PDP, others

Kwankwaso made the declaration at a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, amid rising talks of political realignments involving major parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other major political parties.
National leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has laid down tough conditions for any political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that only parties willing to offer him the presidential ticket or vice-presidential slot would get his attention.
Kwankwaso made the declaration at a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, amid rising talks of political realignments involving major parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other major political parties.
“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” Kwankwaso said. “But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”
His comments come against the backdrop of intense behind-the-scenes negotiations as parties position themselves for 2027.
Kwankwaso also dismissed reports suggesting that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was planning to defect from the NNPP to the APC, describing such claims as unrealistic.
“That is nothing but a dream,” he said.
The former Kano State governor further criticised the current political order, arguing that numerical dominance within a party does not automatically translate into electoral victory.
According to him, credibility, grassroots support and performance remain decisive factors in winning elections, not the number of governors flying a party’s flag.
