Manchester City’s January signing Antoine Semenyo could make his debut almost immediately after completing his move from AFC Bournemouth, with the forward eligible to feature in next week’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Newcastle United.
City confirmed on Friday that the 26-year-old Ghana international has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031, ending his two-and-a-half-year spell with Bournemouth.
Crucially for Pep Guardiola, Semenyo is available for selection right away, handing City a timely attacking boost as they continue their push for silverware across multiple competitions.
The winger arrives with significant Premier League experience, having made 110 appearances for Bournemouth since joining the south coast club midway through the 2022/23 season. Primarily deployed on the left side of an attacking trio, Semenyo established himself as one of the league’s most direct and powerful wide forwards, attracting interest from several top clubs before opting for a move to City.
Speaking after the announcement, Semenyo described the transfer as the perfect step at this stage of his career, insisting he believes his best football is still ahead of him.
“I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have set the highest standards,” he said. “To be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me.”
City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, said the club moved decisively to secure the player, revealing that Semenyo was their top attacking target during the January window.
“Antoine was the one we most wanted,” Viana said. “He has pace, power, quality and real room for growth. Importantly, he has already shown he can perform in the Premier League.”
Semenyo’s arrival adds further depth and versatility to Guardiola’s attacking options as City remain involved in four competitions and enter a demanding second half of the season.
The forward is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately and could be in contention for Tuesday’s semi-final clash at St James’ Park, as City look to take an early step toward another domestic final.
