unke Akindele has once again made history as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, smashed the N2 billion mark at the box office, becoming the first Nigerian movie to achieve the milestone.

The record-breaking feat was announced on Monday by the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, revealing that ticket sales have now hit ₦2,103,039,706. The distributor described the achievement as “shattering records” and hailed Akindele as Africa’s most commercially successful filmmaker.

According to FilmOne, Behind The Scenes is now not only the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in Africa but also the top-grossing Nigerian movie in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Akindele has also become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years—an unprecedented achievement in the region’s film industry.

Reacting to the milestone, the distributor thanked moviegoers for supporting the film, noting that its success reflects more than just box office numbers but a cultural movement driven by loyalty and word-of-mouth.

Behind The Scenes stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, alongside Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and other talented actors.

The film tackles the theme of “black tax,” highlighting the emotional, social, and financial pressures faced by individuals supporting extended family members—a theme that has strongly resonated with audiences, especially young adults, across Nigeria and West Africa.

FilmOne noted that the movie’s continued success is due to relatable storytelling, a strong ensemble cast, aggressive marketing, and Akindele’s enduring appeal as a filmmaker who consistently delivers hits.
