The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious drug dealer, Hafizu Ali, alongside five suspected thugs in a targeted operation that led to the recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons in Kano.
Hafizu Ali, 25, who was previously on the police wanted list for drug-related offences, was arrested during an operation carried out by officers attached to Jaoji Police Division at Jaoji Quarters, Kano.
The raid was conducted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Confirming the development in a statement, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the operation was carried out on January 10 as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and curb the spread of illicit drugs in the state.
According to the police, Hafizu was found in possession of a substantial quantity of illicit substances, including 2,070 capsules of suspected Pregabalin and 23 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa.
In addition, five suspected thugs were arrested during the operation, from whom four knives, two scissors and an axe were recovered.
Kiyawa explained that the operation was in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who had instructed all police commands nationwide to intensify strategic crime-prevention measures aimed at ensuring public safety.
Commending the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication, CP Bakori also thanked residents of Kano State for their cooperation and support in the fight against crime.
He assured the public that the command would sustain its clampdown on drug trafficking and violent crimes.
The police spokesperson disclosed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines, stressing that community collaboration remains critical to maintaining peace and security across the state.
