AFCON 2025: Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o fined, banned
Quick Read
CAF said the punishment followed Eto’o’s behaviour during Cameroon’s 2-0 loss to host nation Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations last Friday.
The President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, has been banned for four matches by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF said the punishment followed Eto’o’s behaviour during Cameroon’s 2-0 loss to host nation Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations last Friday.
Eto’o was reportedly seen making angry gestures over refereeing decisions while standing near CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
CAF also fined Eto’o $20,000.
During the match, players from Cameroon and Morocco were involved in physical confrontations. CAF said it has opened investigations into violent incidents that occurred during AFCON games.
FECAFOOT criticised the decision, saying it was taken too quickly and without clear reasons. The football body said the process did not meet the standards of a fair hearing and announced it would appeal the ban.
FECAFOOT also said it fully supports Samuel Eto’o and remains committed to fairness and justice in football disciplinary matters.
Meanwhile, Morocco will face Senegal in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
