‘National Loss,’ Peter Obi mourns Insurance building fire outbreak losses

Nigerian politcian Peter Obi has spoken about the fire outbreak that occurred at the Great Nigeria Insurance building in Lagos.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate, on his X handle on Thursday, revealed that he attended the burial of the three siblings who lost their lives during the outbreak.

He paid tribute to Stephen Onyeka Omatu, Casmir Nnabuike Omatu, and Collins Kenechukwu Omatu, stating that their death is a national loss.

“It is almost impossible to describe the depth of this tragedy. For days, these young men sent distressing pleas for help while trapped in the building, yet there were no emergency services to rescue them. This is not just a personal loss for their family, it is a national loss,” he said.

Obi stressed the importance of an immediate improvement in the emergency response services, stating that it must be made accessible to every citizen.

“Our emergency services must be improved and made accessible to every citizen. We cannot continue like this. Every life matters, and no Nigerian should ever have to endure such neglect or be left to perish in such a gruesome way, while help could have been provided. May we never forget them, and may we be moved to ensure such a tragedy never happens again,” Obi added.
