The National Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has clarified misleading reports suggesting that passengers on a Qatar Airways flight “narrowly escaped death” after the aircraft returned to Lagos on Friday night.

The early report claimed that the flight carrying 248 passengers faced a life-threatening emergency mid-air and had to make an emergency landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

However, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at NCAA, said the aircraft experienced a technical issue but landed safely without incident. There was no crash, runway excursion, or danger to passengers.

Most passengers continued their journeys, while a few were accommodated in hotels and rebooked on other flights.

The NCAA emphasized that the airline followed all safety protocols and urged the public to avoid sensationalising routine aviation procedures, highlighting that Nigerian airspace is governed by strict safety measures.
