Three officers of Bayelsa Police Command have been arrested over assault on a tricycle rider

The arrest of the officers followed a viral video in which they were shown assaulting a tricycle (keke) driver who said he was going for treatment at a yet-to-be identified location in Bayelsa State.

Spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Musa Mohammed however said the Bayelsa police commissioner, Iyamah Edebor, has ordered the arrest of the officers.

Edobor also condemned the assault on the tricycle riders, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to policing standards.

According to him, the officers involved have been arrested and are undergoing disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations.

“The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, has condemned the act in strong terms, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to professional policing standards. He reiterates that the Command does not tolerate any form of human rights violation, unprofessional conduct or brutality.

“The officers involved have been arrested and disciplinary proceedings has since commenced in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations.

“CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of the rights and safety of all citizens while ensuring lawful and professional policing across Bayelsa State,” Mohammed said in the statement.
