The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that the fuel tanker incident earlier reported at Tincan Island, Apapa, has been successfully brought under control.

PM News had earlier reported that a tanker laden with diesel overturned at the Tincan Liverpool Bridge, triggering dangerous fuel scooping by residents and sparking widespread safety concerns.

Providing an update on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the situation had been fully resolved following a swift emergency response.

According to him, fuel leakage from the fallen tanker was promptly contained through coordinated efforts involving emergency responders and other relevant agencies.

“All necessary safety measures were immediately put in place to prevent further risks to lives, property and the environment,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

He disclosed that the affected stretch of the bridge has now been declared safe for motorists and the general public, adding that traffic flow along the busy Apapa corridor was being gradually restored.

However, road users were advised to remain cautious and obey traffic and safety directives still being enforced by officials at the scene.

The LASEMA boss also warned against the dangerous practice of fuel scooping, which was captured in viral videos during the incident, describing it as a serious threat to public safety.

He commended residents for their cooperation during the operation and reassured Lagosians of the agency’s readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies across the state.
