The revered Islamic cleric passed away on Monday in Ilorin, Kwara State.

His death marks the end of a long era of religious leadership in the Ilorin Emirate, where he served as a major spiritual authority for over four decades.

Born in 1950 in Ilorin, Sheikh Saliu was turbaned as the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate in 1983 and remained in the position until his death.

During his tenure, he was widely respected for his deep knowledge of Islam, humility and commitment to peaceful coexistence. He played a key role in strengthening Islamic institutions, promoting unity and offering wise counsel on religious and communal matters.

The late Chief Imam was known for his moderate views and efforts at resolving disputes within and outside the Ilorin Emirate.

Tributes have continued to pour in from traditional rulers, religious leaders, government officials and members of the public, who described him as a pillar of faith and moral integrity.

Details of his burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and the Ilorin Emirate Council, in accordance with Islamic rites.
