Veteran musician Seyi Sodimu has weighed in on the influence of Nigeria’s Afrobeats heavyweights, explaining why singer Davido could succeed in politics ahead of Burna Boy.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the What I Know podcast, Sodimu analysed the distinct strengths of the Afrobeats “Big 3” — Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid — noting that their influence extends in different directions beyond music.

According to him, while Burna Boy has firmly established himself as a dominant global performer with immense stage presence, Wizkid commands a unique and almost cult-like influence among fans. Davido, however, was described as an artiste whose reach goes far beyond entertainment.

“The Big 3 are all doing music for different reasons,” Sodimu said. “Burna Boy has conquered the stage, and he is very good. Wizkid is special. But Davido surpasses music.”

He further argued that Davido’s widespread grassroots appeal, philanthropy and connections across different social classes could translate into political success if he ever ventured into elective office.

“If Davido ran for governor today, he would win. But I don’t think Burna Boy could win as a governor,” Sodimu stated.

Sodimu’s remarks echo an earlier prediction by media entrepreneur and former senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who once forecast that Davido could one day emerge as governor of Osun State.

The speculation is further fuelled by Davido’s political lineage, as his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, currently serves as the governor of Osun State.
