The governor of Kogi State Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended men and officers of the 12th Brigade, Nigerian Army, for their dedication to duty and pledged the continued support of his administration to them.

The governor made the promise on Saturday, 17 January, at the 2025 combined West African Social Activities, WASA, an annual end of year party, which was held at Chari Meigumeri Barracks, Lokoja, the state capital.

“While congratulating you for the successful conduct of Year 2025 military activities, which have culminated in today’s event, I wish to also commend you for your enduring effort to ensure that peace and security prevail in Kogi State.

“As you commence another activity this year, I charge you to remain focused and highly resilient to all forms of distractions, More so, I urge you to remain proactive in the discharge of your constitutional responsibilities and to redouble your effort in achieving greatness in the year 2026…

“Events like WASA remind us of the human side of our military and the families who support our troops, the cultural richness that binds us as Nigerians and the esprit de corps that strengthens our Armed Forces.

“Kogi State, as the host of this Barracks, remains deeply committed to supporting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. We recognize the sacrifices you make daily to safeguard Kogi State and the nation against insecurity, banditry, and other threats. Under my administration, we will continue to provide necessary support to enhance your welfare and operational effectiveness.”

Earlier, the Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier General Kassim Umar Sidi in a welcome address described the event as a “significant occasion where officers, soldiers, families, and friends of the Barracks come together to celebrate our shared identity, rich cultural heritage, and collective achievements over the last year.”

He said the Nigeria Army draws its strength from the diversity of its people who stand united in their service to the country.

The dedication, discipline, and professionalism displayed by officers and soldiers of this Brigade throughout the year are commendable, which is in line with COAS Command Philosophy which is “To advance the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.

“This event also provides a platform to reward deserving personnel whose diligence, professionalism, and dedication contributed to the achievements witnessed in the outgoing year.
