former spokesman to President Bola Tinubu in the South-East, Denge Josef Onoh, has asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) to immediately suspend its lawmakers in the Rivers State

A former spokesman to President Bola Tinubu in the South-East, Denge Josef Onoh, has asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) to immediately suspend its lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly who are allegedly planning to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

Onoh made this call in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday.

He described the impeachment attempt, led by the Speaker of the Rivers Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, as irresponsible and dangerous to democracy.

According to him, the move is a selfish attempt to grab power and goes against the Constitution.

The lawmakers are accusing Governor Fubara of serious misconduct, including failing to present the 2026 budget. However, Onoh said this accusation ignores the fact that there is already a nationally approved budget in place, which will run until August 2026 under earlier emergency arrangements.

Onoh noted that this is the third attempt to impeach Governor Fubara since 2023, with the latest effort happening in January 2026.

He also pointed out that the lawmakers involved left the PDP for the APC on December 5, 2025, just a few days before Governor Fubara himself joined the APC.

According to Onoh, the decision to target both the governor and his deputy at the same time shows a clear plan to take over the government unlawfully.

He urged the APC leadership to act quickly and suspend all party members in the Rivers Assembly involved in what he called “legislative rascality.”
