The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, on Tuesday apprehended a bullion van driver for driving against traffic on the Lekki–Epe Expressway.
He reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero tolerance for traffic violations that endanger lives and property.
The driver, identified as Daniel Ikede, was intercepted at the Chevron area during an on-site inspection of planned rehabilitation works along the corridor.
Giwa, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the action underscored the government’s commitment to enforcing traffic laws without fear or favour.
Speaking at the scene, Giwa reiterated the need for strict adherence to traffic rules, warning that driving against traffic, popularly known as “one-way driving,” remains a major cause of avoidable accidents across the state.
He described the act as a recipe for disaster that continues to claim innocent lives daily.
He expressed concern over what he described as the growing recklessness among some motorists, questioning the mindset of drivers who assume they are above the law.
According to him, the bullion van driver appeared to believe he could flout traffic rules simply because of the nature of the vehicle he was driving.
Giwa noted that traffic was flowing freely at the time of the incident, yet the driver still chose to drive against traffic.
“You cannot be driving one-way on a Lagos expressway,” he declared, stressing that no vehicle or individual is exempt from traffic regulations.
The special adviser urged motorists to drive cautiously at all times, emphasising that road safety is a shared responsibility.
He added that the driver would be made to face the full weight of the law for the traffic offence, assuring residents that the state would continue to enforce compliance in order to protect lives and maintain order on Lagos roads.
