The Lagos State Government has confirmed the launch of the 2026 e-registration and payment process for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both public and private junior secondary schools across the state.
The online exercise will run from Monday, 26 January to Friday, 27 March 2026, under the coordination of the Lagos State Examinations Board (LSEB). It is designed to ensure a fully digital registration system that removes the need for school administrators to visit the board in person, while improving transparency, efficiency and accountability in the examination process.
A statement issued by the government on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday provided details of the initiative.
“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has officially commenced the 2026 BECE e-registration and payment exercise, which will run from 26 January to 27 March 2026,” the statement read.
The scheme aligns with the government’s policy of harnessing technology to modernise examination procedures, ensuring minimal physical interaction and a smoother registration experience for all schools.
Speaking on the rollout, Registrar of the LSEB, Adebayo Orunsolu, emphasised that schools must make use of their newly issued School Code when completing registrations.
“Public junior secondary schools should download the Offline Data Capturing Application via bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng,” he said.
He added that approved private junior secondary schools, schools with special permission, and continuing education centres must access the board’s portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng to make payments, complete registration, and generate login credentials.
“Approved private schools and public continuing education centres will pay a registration fee of ₦10,000 per candidate, while private schools with special permission and private CECs are to pay ₦15,000 per candidate,” Orunsolu stated.
The registrar also advised schools registering candidates with special needs to notify the board in advance, including those with visual impairments or albinism, to allow adequate preparations before the examinations begin.
Late registrations may attract penalties, and the board will communicate additional instructions, where necessary, through zonal officers to ensure compliance.
