Nigerian rapper Mr Real, whose real name is Okafor Victor, has tendered a public apology to veteran singer and music executive D’banj over controversial remarks he made concerning the Creative, Reality, Entertainment, Arts and Music (CREAM) platform.

The apology followed a petition filed by D’banj’s legal counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who accused Mr Real of criminal defamation over comments suggesting that the CREAM platform could not afford to offer him a ₦20 million ambassadorial deal.

The remarks stirred reactions on social media and prompted legal action, with a magistrate court ordering Mr Real to appear in court and restraining him from making further statements about D’banj pending the determination of the case.

In an emotional video shared on his Instagram page, Mr Real expressed deep remorse, describing D’banj as a “father figure and mentor” who had played a significant role in his life and career.

“This video is an apology to my boss, D’banj. I want to use this opportunity to apologise to the Koko Master,” he said. “I misunderstood and misinterpreted some things concerning the CREAM platform, and I want to sincerely say I am very sorry.”

The rapper acknowledged D’banj’s influence on his musical journey and reaffirmed his respect and loyalty to the veteran artiste.

“D’banj, you have played a big role in my life and career, and I would never deny that. You are like a father and mentor to me. I am truly sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness,” he added.

Mr Real also pledged to cooperate fully with the legal process, stating that he would refrain from making further public comments on the matter.

“I promise to comply with the legal process and give my full support and cooperation. I remain loyal to you,” he said.

In a caption accompanying the apology video, the rapper confirmed that he had withdrawn his earlier statements and expressed his commitment to resolving the dispute amicably and privately.

“I regret the tone and public manner of my recent comments relating to Bangalee,” he wrote. “I hold D’banj in the highest regard and will not make further public statements on this matter while cooperating to resolve it amicably.”
