Salah back in Liverpool training after AFCON

Quick Read

The 33-year-old had accused the club of throwing him “under the bus” after he was benched for three consecutive matches and claimed he had no relationship with manager Arne Slot.

Mohamed Salah has returned to Liverpool training following Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, as the Reds prepare for their Champions League clash against Marseille.

The Egyptian forward was spotted on Tuesday at the club’s Kirkby training ground, taking part in a light session with his teammates ahead of Wednesday’s European tie in France.

Salah’s comeback has drawn attention after his explosive comments about Liverpool earlier this season.

The 33-year-old had accused the club of throwing him “under the bus” after he was benched for three consecutive matches and claimed he had no relationship with manager Arne Slot.

Despite the fallout, Salah later featured as a substitute in Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton on December 13, providing an assist.

Slot subsequently played down the controversy, insisting the club had moved on.

Last week, the Liverpool manager said he was “happy” to welcome Salah back from AFCON but declined to reveal details of their discussions.

Slot also admitted he was uncertain whether the forward would feature against Marseille.

Liverpool currently sit ninth in the Champions League league phase.

The top eight teams qualify automatically for the round of 16, while clubs placed ninth to 24th must contest a play-off.

Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot last season after scoring 29 goals, helping Liverpool clinch a record-equalling 20th league title.
