The elder sister of late Afrobeats singer Destiny Boy has dismissed allegations that their mother, Saidat Adeshina, cursed the singer before his death, describing the claims as false, malicious, and misleading.

The singer’s death, which occurred on Sunday, sparked widespread reactions on social media, with several conflicting narratives emerging about the circumstances surrounding his passing.

Earlier, Saidat had explained that her son’s health challenges began about two years ago, during preparations for the naming ceremony of his first child. According to her, the family explored medical and traditional remedies in a bid to manage the illness.

She disclosed that Destiny Boy was eventually referred to an Ifa priest, Ifayomi Oba Edu, whom the singer reportedly regarded as a father figure. Saidat described the ailment as “Oku or,” noting that whenever it manifested, the singer would become stiff like someone experiencing epileptic seizures and later show symptoms resembling a mental disorder after recovery.

She added that the family deliberately kept the illness out of the public eye due to Destiny Boy’s growing fame.

Controversy, however, erupted following a TikTok live session hosted by a popular TikToker, during which an old video of Saidat rebuking her son during a disagreement was replayed. In the clip, she was heard angrily making statements that some social media users later interpreted as a curse.

The footage triggered public outrage, with calls from some quarters for her arrest.

Reacting in a now-viral video, Destiny Boy’s elder sister defended their mother and accused the TikToker of promoting a damaging and false narrative.

“I am Destiny Boy’s sister. I am seeing something going viral on TikTok and Facebook where bloggers are writing about it,” she said.

Questioning the claims, she added, “Did you see it when Destiny’s mother killed her own son? Because you are cursing Destiny Boy’s mother now. Is it possible for a mother to kill her own child?”

She explained that the video merely captured a heated family disagreement.

“He fought with my mother, and my mum was talking to him so that he would listen to her and obey her,” she stated.

She also refuted allegations linking her brother to money rituals, challenging those making the claims to provide evidence.

“My mum didn’t kill my brother. Although they had an issue and she spoke out of anger, it is not possible for a mother to kill her son,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed on Monday that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the singer’s death, noting that investigations are still ongoing.
