Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced Afeez Jimoh to a term of two years at the correctional centre, for drug trafficking.

Jimoh was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a two-count charge of peddling 202g of Cannabis and 3g of Metaphetamine.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Delivering judgment, the court convicted Jimoh based on his guilty plea, and the evidence tendered against him by the NDLEA.

The court held that it considered that the convict was a first-time offender, who also did not waste the time and the resources of the court before pleading guilty.

“Jimoh is hereby, sentenced to two years imprisonment for count one, and two years’ imprisonment for count two respectively.

“Sentencing shall however, run concurrently, starting from the first day he was arrested.

“After completing his jail term, he must report to the NDLEA office for six months for counselling on drug.

“The weeds found in possession of the convict shall be destroyed by the NDLEA,” the court held.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs R.O. Ige, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on May 24, 2025, at Egbeda Local Government Area of Ibadan.

She said that the NDLEA operatives received intelligence from informants that Jimoh was into drug peddling.

According to her, the operatives swung into action and arrested the convict in possession of a sack containing 202g of Cannabis Sativa, and 3g of Metaphetamine, a psychotropic substance.

She said that the offences contravene the provisions of section 11(C) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Law of the Federation 2004.
