Four children have been hospitalised after a fire broke out at a block of flats in Lambeth, London on Wednesday.

Emergency crews rushed to Barrington Road, near Loughborough Junction station, after the alarm was raised at 8.05am.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched around 60 firefighters and eight engines from across Brixton, Clapham and Peckham to tackle the flames at the 11-storey building, MyLondon reported on Wednesday.

More than 20 people were reportedly forced out of their homes as the blaze spread.

Paramedics also took four children for further treatment as a precaution.

Two flats on the fifth and sixth floors have been completely destroyed, LFB confirmed in a statement.

Police secured the area with a cordon, blocking traffic from the junction with Millbrook Road. The scene was brought under control shortly after 9 am.

Investigation to determine the cause of the fire is now underway.
