‘You denied your people ,’- Joey Akan slams Wizkid

Nigerian music journalist, Joey Akan, has criticised Wizkid over the ongoing controversy with Seun Kuti. The Afrobeats Intelligence founder on his X handle on Wednesday, weighed in on the issue, stating that Wizkid FC’s action is endorsed by the artist himself.

Joey claimed that Wizkid is constantly feeding his fanbase’s bitterness towards other artists but acts like he is not. He added that his recent acts are not respectable, adding that he should fight his own battles rather than creating chaos with his fanbase.

”The best part of this Wizkid and Seun drama is, without a doubt, we now know that FC’s ceaseless campaign of bitterness is endorsed from the top. I’ve always suspected it, but I believed Wiz to be better than directly grooming and feeding a divisive horde. But he isn’t. This episode strips him of plausible deniability when they go on attacks against his colleagues, and destroy sacred altars in his name. It is what he wants. I can’t respect that. I can’t respect formatting chaos using a monkey paw to do your dirty work. A sharp contrast to Burna Boy who doesn’t really put his 11 outsiders to task. He even kicks them. That, I can respect,” he wrote.

Joey further claimed that Wizkid turned his back on Nigerians after gaining international recognition, adding that Fela never did that.

”When Fela got international acclaim, he still fought for his people. When you got international acclaim, you denied your people, and the music culture that nourished you. I know my goat,” he added.
