Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, has criticised the unlawful detention of citizens by law enforcement agencies.
While speaking at the 23rd Annual Trust Dialogue held in Abuja on Thursday, El-Rufai stressed the importance of the justice system protecting its citizens.
He stated that holding individuals in custody without due process is a violation of their fundamental human rights. He also called on the government to ensure such practices are brought to an end.
“The law should protect citizens, not terrify them like what is happening in Nigeria. Detention without court order must end,” he said.
