Employer, one other arrested for beating labourer to death in Oyo

Two persons identified as Lateef Giwa, male and Adediran Quazim have been arrested over alleged involvement in the killing of Abdulraheem Koni, a 20-year-old bricklayer and labourer in Budo Mosalasi Village Saki area of Oyo State.
Oyo Police Command spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, announced the arrest in a statement on Thursday.
According to him, the arrest of the suspects followed credible information received by the Command regarding the tragic incident.
He revealed that investigations by the police revealed that one of the suspects, Giwa was the employer of Koni. He said a dispute arose between him and Koni while they were working.
The Police spokesperson added that the dispute led to an altercation that escalated, and Giwa and his accomplice, Adediran Quazim, allegedly assaulted the deceased, resulting in bruises and other injuries to his body.
He added that Koni was subsequently taken for medical attention but he later succumbed to his injuries.
He added that this prompted the Command to take immediate action to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
“Examination of the deceased confirmed the extent of the injuries, necessitating a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including allegations of assault and possible conspiracy,” the Oyo Police spokesperson said in the statement.
The Oyo police spokesperson added that the suspects have made useful confessions detailing their role and involvement in the killing of Koni.
He also said the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive and discreet investigation.
Olayinkka said this will ensure that the matter is handled professionally, following intelligence-led procedures.
“The Oyo State Police Command emphasizes that this case highlights the effectiveness of proactive policing, prompt response, and intelligence-driven investigations, which are central to safeguarding lives and maintaining law and order.
“Members of the public are encouraged to provide credible information to assist the Police in concluding the investigation successfully.
