Police clarify viral rape report

The Ondo State Police Command has reacted to a viral social media post alleging that a child, identified as Oluwatosin Abosede, was sexually assaulted by one Jimmy, clarifying that the incident occurred several years ago.

In a statement posted on its official X  handle on Thursday, the Command said the alleged assault incident took place around July 2019 and is not a recent case, as being suggested in the trending post.

“The attention of the Ondo State Police Command has been drawn to a trending post where one Oluwatosin Abosede was alleged raped by one Jimmy,” the statement read.

The Police Command explained that upon receiving the report at the time, its operatives immediately commenced investigation into the matter.

According to the police, the investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, who was subsequently charged to court in line with due process.

“Upon receipt of the report, the operatives of the Command swung into action, where thorough investigation led to the arrest of the suspect. However, the suspect was charged to court,” the Command stated.
