Amotekun intercepts suspected bandits at Ekiti border

The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, operating under the Oye Local Government Command, has apprehended 16 individuals suspected to be bandits who allegedly attempted to move into the state from neighbouring Kwara.
The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued by the Command’s Director of Information, Mr Adeleye, and released to members of the press.
According to the statement, residents of the Gede Farm settlement in Isan-Ekiti became alarmed after the suspects were sighted in large numbers with herds of cattle roaming the area, a situation that reportedly unsettled the community and disrupted normal activities.
Following the development, additional operatives were deployed from nearby Amotekun formations to reinforce the Oye command. The coordinated operation led to the interception and arrest of the suspects.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the individuals had fled Kwara State in response to intensified security operations against banditry. They reportedly admitted to involvement in cattle rustling, with most of the stolen livestock said to belong to residents of Kwara.
16 suspects were taken into custody, while items recovered during the operation included sums of cash, seven Tecno mobile phones, assorted charms, three Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) identity cards, as well as several cows.
The statement added that the suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and necessary action.
