Awujale stool: Protest hits Ijebu Ode over imposition plan

Residents of Ijebu Ode staged a peaceful protest on Friday against alleged attempts to impose the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The protesters marched along Awujale Palace Road, heading to the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat to express their displeasure over the development.

The demonstration comes days after the Ogun State Government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, halted the Awujale selection process. The suspension followed numerous petitions from security agencies and stakeholders raising concerns about the process.

The protesters called on the government and traditional authorities to ensure that the next Awujale is selected transparently and in accordance with local customs.
