Daggers Drawn: Wike drags striking FCTA workers to court
Quick Read
Despite the legal action, JUAC has vowed to sustain the strike, insisting that workers’ demands remain unmet and urging staff to continue staying away from work.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approached the National Industrial Court in Abuja to challenge the ongoing strike by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The industrial action, declared indefinite by the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), began after a seven-day ultimatum expired, forcing the shutdown of key government offices, including the FCTA Secretariat. Security operatives were deployed to restrict access to the premises.
Court documents show that Wike and the FCTA are seeking an order to restrain the unions from picketing, blocking offices or disrupting official activities. The suit, filed at the Abuja Division of the Industrial Court, is scheduled for hearing on Monday.
Justice E. D. Subilim has approved substituted service of court papers on the union leaders through newspaper publication and by posting notices at the JUAC office within the FCTA Secretariat.
