Kurmin Wali: Why we denied the abductions earlier – Kaduna Gov

Kaduna Gov - Uba Sani

Quick Read

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has addressed questions over the initial denial of reports that over 170 people were abducted from Kurmin Wali village in Kajuru Local Government Area.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has addressed questions over the initial denial of reports that over 170 people were abducted from Kurmin Wali village in Kajuru Local Government Area.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, the governor said his administration’s priority has been the rescue of the kidnapped victims, rather than focusing on the numbers or political narratives surrounding the incident.

Governor Sani explained that while early reports of the abduction were denied, this was not intended to downplay the situation. He noted that some individuals have politicized the figures, which could distract from the ongoing rescue efforts.

“Our focus is on ensuring the safe return of our people,” he said. “In Kaduna State, we do not politicize security matters. Those who try to turn this into a political issue will be ashamed.”

The governor also disclosed that he has been in constant consultation with national security authorities, including the President’s security adviser, the Minister of Defence, the Director-General of the SSS, and the Inspector-General of Police, to coordinate efforts for the victims’ safe recovery.

He reaffirmed that the state government will not pay ransom to the kidnappers and called on residents to assist security agencies with information. “The community must actively support the security agencies because government alone cannot ensure security,” he said.

Governor Sani promised that his administration will not relent until all the kidnapped individuals are rescued safely. “As governor, I will not rest, I will not sleep. By God’s grace, we will ensure everyone returns home safely,” he added.
