Dare stated this in Abuja at the 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue themed: “Nigeria’s Fourth Republic: What is Working and What is Not” was organised by Media Trust Group.

The presidential aide gave a political and economy analysis from independence, hitting on the loses and gains recorded in each political and economic dispensations.

“Now the Fourth Republic, 1999 to date. The fourth Republic was born in fragility. It saw militancy in the Niger Delta Region driven by resource control grievance and disrupting oil production and national revenue.

“It was address through Amnesty Programme and other interventions. Then came the Boko Haram that spread into into various forms like banditry and others that disrupted education, agriculture and economy.

“Tinubu did not only inherited an imperfect economy but a structural unjust system, marked by fiscal indiscipline.

“He then unleashed a lot of reforms in several sector by removing fuel subsidy and currency and restoring fiscal discipline.

“President Tinubu did not only correct the economy woes but also the democratic ones, which signs of recovery could been seen in the fourth Republic under his purposeful leadership.

“The path to the recovery include nine months of inflation dropping, GDP growth from 4.1 per cent to 4.4 per cent, trade surplus, external reserves increased to $43 billion dollars, oil production also increased, infrastructure development, NELFUND etc,” Dare said.

According to him, these signs of recovery under Tinubu has position Nigeria on the map of progressive country.
According to Dare, what is working in the fourth Republic include, civilian supremacy, electoral and judicial institutionalisation, expansion of civil space, media and accountability pressure, policy continuity and many more.

He, however, admitted that the challenges that the fourth Republic is facing is public trust, economic stress, unemployment and many more, but under Tinubu, Nigeria is on the path to recovery and prosperity.

Also speaking, a former president of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Saraki appealed to speakers in the Daily Trust Dialogue not to use it as a platform for political campaign.

“Let us discuss as patriotic Nigerians with a common goal to make our country greater. Our discussion should be about the message and not the messenger.

“There are things that are working, but that should not be misunderstood that one is supporting the government.

“Also, there are other things that are not working, we need to have the courage to criticise; that does not mean you are an enemy of the current government, because these issues did not started today,” Saraki said.

Similarly, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, said that the fourth Republic had its challenges, adding things were getting better along the way.

He said that the various attacks in the country did not have religious connotation, adding that some unpatriotic elements were not saying the truth.

He noted that corruption was another monster killing the country, stressing the need to empower the anti-graft agencies to do more.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other speakers, former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-rufai and former House Committee Chair on Foreign Affair, Nnenna Ukeje also gave their perceptions of the theme of the event.
